Hello Ernestown Intermediate & Secondary School families,

It's been a busy and wonderful few weeks around the school. Our intermediate soccer teams both placed at their recent LESSA tournaments, with the girls winning gold, and the boys winning silver! We also had a wonderful intermediate field trip to Wynn Farms, as well as a secondary drama field trip to Come From Away. We appreciate our Senior Student Council students for their work on a fantastic team building afternoon for our grade 9s, with the help of Ms. Ellis, as well as today's Haunted Hallway project. We thank Ms. Chandler and the Student Council for their work on today's Halloween assembly!

A Message from Southeast Public Health

Attention, parents and caregivers!– A gentle reminder that Ontario students are required to have up-to-date immunization records on file with public health units. Records are not always automatically shared by health-care providers. This insert explains how families can submit immunization records and book an appointment with Southeast Public Health.

CREATING BALANCE IN A DIGITAL WORLD- A message from Educational Services

Digital wellness helps children develop healthy, balanced habits with technology and screen time. As students explore digital wellness at school, we want to share a few simple ideas families can try at home. By listening, learning together, and keeping communication open, we can help children develop a healthy relationship with technology.

WHY DIGITAL WELLNESS MATTERS

Digital wellness can help children:

  • Develop healthy habits and daily routines
  • Get enough sleep and enjoy restful evenings
  • Balance online activities with offline experiences
  • Build face-to-face connections
  • Make time for physical activity, hobbies, and outdoor play
  • Reflect on their technology use and make thoughtful choices

SUPPORTING DIGITAL WELLNESS AT HOME

  • Monitor screen time: Use built-in device features to help track and manage screen time.
  • Create a screen-free zone: Choose a time or place, such as mealtimes or bedrooms, where devices are put away.
  • Try a 60-minute wind-down: When possible, aim for screen-free time during the hour before bed. Encourage relaxing alternatives such as reading, talking, or listening to music.
