Two weeks ago we had a successful Taste of Ernestown Day where our incoming grade 9s got to sample a high school day including an assembly, pizza lunch, and four classes. This Friday, we held the annual May Mania school carnival day. Thanks to Ms. Nolan and the Impact Class for their work on both of these events! Today a group of 50 students left for Stratford and another group travelled to Gould Lake for a day of paddling. See below as we look ahead to many great experiences between now and the end of the year.

Secondary Exam Schedule

Please note that students must attend exams as scheduled. However, we want to inform families about one particular activity that has become increasingly concerning from a safety standpoint.

“Senior Assassin” is a popular game among graduating students across North America that involves students “assassinating” one another using water guns, gel projectiles, or foam darts. Girls System Mentorship is a non-profit organization based in Canada that strives to bridge the gap between men and women in STEM. We believe that early intervention at a young age is critical for young women interested in STEM. The program provides a space for encouragement and aims to increase diversity in the STEM workforce by pairing self-identifying young women in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) with professional mentors from a diverse range of STEM fields. In doing so, mentees can gain first-hand knowledge of STEM early on, which we believe is vital in building the confidence to succeed in the future.

Some of the benefits of becoming a mentee include:

· Free one-on-one mentoring with a professional in STEM

· Access to monthly workshops and events to further your STEM interests

· A platform to connect with other like-minded individuals

Applications to become a mentee for the Winter 2026 program year are now open. Apply to become a mentee <a href="https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fforms%2Fd%2Fe%2F1FAIpQLScnYY_NkTuNGlJLbhxp9DGg39G73pnx1iXRJNbWTewPGJQUhw%2Fviewform%3Fusp%3Ddialog&data=05%7C02%7Chamiltons%40limestone.on.ca%7C25816b040e30463df72608de68e04f88%7Ce1f4165febae4d82a73ca0de593830be%7C0%7C0%7C639063509810124843%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C4000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Vp53mEGv9rbttyvtE66xAV%2Brb8L2gsyfkfNm8W8lVkM%3D&reserved=0" rel="noreferrer" title="Original URL: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScnYY_NkTuNGlJLbhxp9DGg39G73pnx1iXRJNbWTewPGJQUhw/viewform?usp=dialog.

Year End Letter to Students and Parents

The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Education has shared a letter for students, parents and families:

Dear Students, Parents and Families,

To our amazing students: well done on finishing another school year! This is a good time to celebrate everything you have accomplished over the past several months. You worked hard, took on challenges, learned new things and continued to grow. You should be proud of all you have achieved this year.

As you begin your summer break, take time to rest, explore your interests, and enjoy time with family and friends. However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you make the most of the months ahead.

To the graduating Class of 2026, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, university, an apprenticeship, the workforce or another pathway, I wish you every success in the years ahead.

As families look ahead to September and the start of a new school year, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ontario schools will continue to focus on helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math while preparing them for success beyond the classroom. Students in elementary schools will learn from the same core materials and benefit from a revised Kindergarten curriculum focused on foundational literacy, math and science skills. In Grade 7 and 8, updated History courses will include new mandatory content on the history of Black Canadians.

In high schools, students in Grade 10 History will have new learning about Black history, the Holocaust and Holodomor. Students will also be required to demonstrate financial literacy as part of earning their high school diploma. To help provide clearer expectations and a more comprehensive picture of student achievement, high school students will complete written final exams during a dedicated exam period, and attendance and classroom participation will form part of their final grade. Together, these changes will help students stay engaged in their learning and be better prepared for life after graduation.

I hope the summer ahead provides an opportunity to recharge and enjoy some well-earned time together. I wish you and your family a safe, happy and enjoyable summer.

Sincerely,

The Honourable Paul Calandra Minister of Education

Year End Letter to Students, Parents, and Families from The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Education - English (PDF)

Year End Letter to Students, Parents, and Families from The Honourable Paul Calandra, Minister of Education - French (PDF)
