Important Graduation Travel Notice: Main Street Odessa Road Closure

<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Hello Ernestown Intermediate & Secondary School families, </h2>Important Graduation Travel Notice:  Main Street Odessa Road ClosureWe would like to make students and families attending Grade 8 and Grade 12 graduation ceremonies at Ernestown Intermediate & Secondary School aware of significant road closures on Main Street in Odessa scheduled to begin on June 22, 2026.  These closures will affect travel routes and arrival times for many students and families.Please plan ahead and allow additional travel time. Depending on where you are travelling from, families may need to budget up to an additional 30 minutes to arrive safely and on time for graduation.The following is the official message and accompanying graphic from <a href="https://engage.loyalist.ca/odessa-main-street-reconstruction" class="editor-link">Loyalist Township:</a>  Main Street full road closure will begin around June 22 (marked in red). The detour route is outlined in white. The route shown in yellow is intended for local traffic and to maintain emergency access. Through traffic past west street may not always be possible, please use the marked detour route. Thank you for your cooperation. <img src="/images/b0165ff2-25c9-4435-be69-b894edaebbba?fingerprint=ppb20260617182254" alt="map detour arrow update" width="100%" height="inherit" style="width:100%;height:inherit;display:inline-block"> What Families Need to Know:·       Main Street is expected to be fully closed beginning around June 22.·       The closure affects travel through Odessa, including the area from the bridge over Millhaven Creek to West Street and Durham Street will remain open while Main Street is closed (until at least the end of June).·       Families are welcome to use the marked detour routes identified by Loyalist Township and avoid relying on local-access roads. Suggested Routes to Ernestown ISS:Families should determine the best route using the information provided above and on the Loyalist website.  Two possible routes from Easterly and Westerly directions are described below as potential options for families:Travelling Eastbound to the school, use Using Country Road 6, turn west onto Scotland Road, and then turn south onto Old Wilton Road. This route will bring you into Odessa and allow access to Norris Road. Families can access the school from the back parking lot using the new back entrance.Travelling Westbound to the school, use County Road 4 to access Odessa. School access is not expected to be impacted by construction when approaching from this direction, and Ernestown ISS can be accessed via the front entrance as per normal.Thank you for planning ahead!  We know graduation is an important day for students and families, and we want everyone to arrive safely, calmly, and with enough time to enjoy the celebration. June 2026 Newsletter

<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Hello Ernestown Intermediate & Secondary School families, </h2>It has been a very exciting few weeks around our school! We have had some excellent experiential learning opportunites for our <img src="/images/d6b38aac-3a2b-4a6d-a185-b1ea142e9fbb?fingerprint=ppb20260605180006" alt="561D4236 8F7A 44EB 885C 18BC292F71F7" width="197" height="260" style="width:197px;height:260px;display:inline-block;float:right">students including a Science trip to the Toronto Zoo, the Drama trip to Stratford, and the Intermediate trip to Gould Lake. We hosted our families this week with our annual Evening of the Arts Night. It was the biggest turnout we've ever had at a coffeehouse/evening of the arts! Students did an amazing job showcasing their musical and theatrical talents; we also got to enjoy a slideshow of visual art accomplishments during intermission and Joslyn Richer completed an incredible art piece live during the evening, which was raffled off.  We are looking forward to our graduations for our grade 8s on Monday, June 22nd at 4pm and our grade 12s on Thursday, June 25th at 3pm. As we wrap up the school year, we are excited to share some updates with our Ernestown community. Ernestown is now on social media, check out our Instagram and Facebook pages @eisseagles for updates on the school community. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2">Secondary Exam Schedule</h2>Please note that students must attend exams as scheduled. Examinations can be rescheduled in the case of a conflict (example: two exams scheduled at the same time) by connecting with Ms. Hamilton as soon as possible. Travel should not be scheduled during the exam period. Any conflicts or additional questions should be brought to Ms. Hamilton in the main office.Students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be provided with accomodations needed for each exam. Please review the following important reminders and logistics:· Arrival Time:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" style="text-align: start;">Please arrive at Ernestown Secondary School on Wednesday, June 10 at 7:15 AM. This will allow time for a brief meeting and washroom use before departure. There’s no limit on guests, but larger groups should arrive early. Graduates should meet in the cafeteria by 3:30 PM. Attire can range from casual to formal.♿ Accessibility Families may enter through the cafeteria doors. Parking is available at the side or back of the school.🏆 Certificates & Awards   All students will receive a graduation certificate. Some may also receive criteria-based or major awards, selected by staff. Major award winners will receive a plaque and have their name added to the school’s trophy case.🚢 Boat Cruise 📅 Monday, June 22 from 7:00–9:00 PM   📍 Island Queen, Crawford Wharf (bottom of Brock St., Kingston)   We’re thrilled to celebrate our graduates with a special boat cruise, joined by students and staff from neighbouring schools! This event is open for booking for students, parents and caregivers must complete the permission form open to all grade 8 students on School Day. If you need help logging in, please call the main office and speak with Kim, Karen, or Jaycee. Graduates should arrive at Crawford Wharf by 6:30 PM and check in with their teacher. Please allow extra time for traffic and consider parking a short distance away and walking to the pier. Pick-up is at 9:00 PM. Note: the boat’s stairs and decks can be slippery—comfortable shoes are recommended.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">LDSB's Summer School Registration Remains Open </h2>Registration for LDSB‑offered courses is now open. The Recognition and Awards Ceremony will be held on July 1, 2026, at the Bath Canada Day celebration. The ceremony will take place on the Main Stage, located in the event area (217 Church Street, Bath) during the Opening Ceremony, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Way to go, Sarahi! <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Limestone International Education </h2>Limestone is proud of our long tradition of hosting students from other countries. The demand for Loyalist Township and Canada, as a learning destination is rapidly growing. Students from over 15 different countries are here now staying with great homestay families throughout Limestone District School Board. Our International Education team is looking for more families to become homestay hosts to great international students.   We currently have 10 students on our waiting list that have applied to Limestone for 2026-2027 and need a home. They range from one semester to one year stays and are from Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Slovakia, Czechia, Italy and Denmark. Host families will be paid a tax-free monthly stipend to host students. All students in the program attend local intermediate or secondary schools and range in age from 12 to 17 years old. Semester Two Exam Schedule

Examinations can be rescheduled in the case of a conflict (example: two exams scheduled at the same time) by connecting with Ms. Hamilton as soon as possible. Travel should not be scheduled during the exam period. Any conflicts or additional questions should be brought to Ms. Hamilton in the main office. Students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be provided with accomodations needed for each exam. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Hello Ernestown Intermediate & Secondary School families, </h2>It has been a very exciting few weeks around our school! Two weeks ago we had a successful Taste of Ernestown Day where our incoming grade 9s got to sample a high school day including an assembly, pizza lunch, and four classes. This Friday, we held the annual May Mania school carnival day. Thanks to Ms. Nolan and the Impact Class for their work on both of these events! Today a group of 50 students left for Stratford and another group travelled to Gould Lake for a day of paddling. We enjoyed seeing so many of our secondary families at last night's parent teacher conferences. In her role as a teacher, Department Head, and Athletic Director, Ms. Lawlor has dedicated countless hours volunteering her time and experience to volleyball and a wide array of other sports at Ernestown. Her support of Ernestown Athletics is unrivaled and is greatly appreciated by current and former staff and students! Erin is recognized as a KASSAA high school volleyball coach who exemplifies unwavering dedication to the sport of volleyball, a commitment to being a positive role model for athletes and coaches, and strong advocacy for student wellness. Girls System Mentorship is a non-profit organization based in Canada that strives to bridge the gap between men and women in STEM. We believe that early intervention at a young age is critical for young women interested in STEM. The program provides a space for encouragement and aims to increase diversity in the STEM workforce by pairing self-identifying young women in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) with professional mentors from a diverse range of STEM fields. Our International Education team is looking for more families to become homestay hosts to great international students.   We currently have 19 students on our waiting list that have applied to Limestone for 2026-2027 and need a home. They range from one semester to one year stays and are from Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Slovakia, Czechia, Italy and Denmark. Host families will be paid a tax-free monthly stipend to host students. All students in the program attend local intermediate or secondary schools and range in age from 12 to 17 years old. Students performed antenatal assessments, newborn assessments, and even supported a simulated birth. Secondary midterm marks will be sent home on Friday, May 8th, providing an important check-in on student progress. Girls System Mentorship is a non-profit organization based in Canada that strives to bridge the gap between men and women in STEM. We believe that early intervention at a young age is critical for young women interested in STEM. The program provides a space for encouragement and aims to increase diversity in the STEM workforce by pairing self-identifying young women in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) with professional mentors from a diverse range of STEM fields. Board of Trustees Approves 2026–2027 School Year Budget

At its regular meeting on June 17, 2026, the Limestone District School Board of Trustees approved a $340.5 million budget for the 2026–2027 school year. This is a deficit budget balanced through the use of reserve funds.The approved budget complies with Ministry of Education requirements and includes:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">Operating expenditures of $316.8 million, representing a $73,000 decrease compared to the previous year.</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Capital expenditures of $23.7 million, allocated to school condition improvements and renewal projects.</li></ul>The vast majority of the operating budget is directed to student instruction and relates directly to classroom support. However you choose to spend your summer, I hope you make the most of the months ahead.To the graduating Class of 2026, congratulations on reaching this important milestone. Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether your next step is college, university, an apprenticeship, the workforce or another pathway, I wish you every success in the years ahead.As families look ahead to September and the start of a new school year, there are a few things to keep in mind. Ontario schools will continue to focus on helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing and math while preparing them for success beyond the classroom. Students in elementary schools will learn from the same core materials and benefit from a revised Kindergarten curriculum focused on foundational literacy, math and science skills. In Grade 7 and 8, updated History courses will include new mandatory content on the history of Black Canadians.In high schools, students in Grade 10 History will have new learning about Black history, the Holocaust and Holodomor. Students will also be required to demonstrate financial literacy as part of earning their high school diploma. Limestone Students Earn Prestigious Scholarships, Including National Loran Honour

Limestone District School Board graduates have received significant scholarships to support their post-secondary education. Nathan KashiraKingston Secondary School (KSS) graduate Nathan Kashira has been selected as a <a href="https://loranscholar.ca/scholars/nathan-kashira/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" class="editor-link">2026 Loran Scholar</a>, out of more than 5,400 applicants across Canada. Of the 36 selected to become the Class of 2026, Nathan is among the nine from Ontario who were selected. Nathan owns and operates a drone photography and videography company. He also leads a church volunteer team dedicated to supporting the community through food security initiatives, sports programs, and social services. It is designed to help an Indigenous student, who shares the Fields’ values of hard work and education, to take the next step to a post-secondary school education. Abby Scott, North Addington Education Centre (NAEC)  Werk Poole Student AwardEstablished in 2004, The Werk Poole Student Award was introduced as a tribute to Werk Poole, a leader in the Napanee community for many years. This fund annually disburses an award to a graduating secondary school student, resident of Lennox and Addington County, who has been accepted into a Leadership Training Program. The student will have demonstrated knowledge of, and interest in, the qualities inherent in leadership roles. Significant community ties and volunteer experience would be possible indicators of a student’s commitment to a leadership program. Chloe Mazurski, NAEC  Camden East Women’s Institute Student AwardEstablished in 2006, this fund will provide an annual award for a Napanee District Secondary School student to attend a community college as follows: this student should be a resident of Camden East Ward #1 / Newburgh Ward #2 areas and awarded based upon criteria set out by the Camden East Women’s Institute. Candidates will be recommended by Napanee District Secondary School. Devan Maxwell  Goodyear Student Award  Established in 2002, the Goodyear Award provides an award to a graduating high school student from Lennox and Addington County, for the purpose of post-secondary education and training in technical education. Ryder Steven Punchard, NDSS  Rotary Club of Napanee Service Above Self Student Award Established in 2024, the Napanee Rotary “Service Above Self” Award recognizes one graduating student from each Lennox and Addington high school who is planning on attending post-secondary education. It is designed to support a student who has demonstrated a dedication to serving their community by leading or actively participating in initiatives which improve an aspect of their community in a meaningful way. The three successful students will be chosen by their high schools – NDSS, Ernestown Secondary School (ESS), and NAEC. Karlee Hickey, ESS Abby Kelsey, NDSS Chloe Mazurski, NAEC  Ross and Helen Oliver Student Award   This award is made possible through the donation of John and David Oliver in loving memory of their father, Ross and mother, Helen. The Olivers were both passionate about education and its amazing platform that helps shape the future and personal growth of our young people.  Students must be attending NDSS pursuing post-secondary education in the upcoming school year. Abigail Misevicius Nara Rickard  The Val Brooks-McEwen Memorial Award Established this year, 2026, in memory of Val Brooks-McEwen, recognizing 40 years of service at NDSS. The Limestone District School Board is seeking community members with strong financial expertise and business acumen to serve as external members of its Audit Committee for a three‑year term beginning September 2026.The Audit Committee consists of three Trustees and two independent community members. Its mandate is to assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its governance and oversight responsibilities.
