<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Hello Ernestown Intermediate & Secondary School families, </h2>As we head into the coming days, we’d like to remind families that there is no school due to the upcoming PA Day. Secondary midterm marks will be sent home on Friday, May 8th, providing an important check-in on student progress. We are also incredibly proud of our student actors for their recent success with The Hatchetts — their hard work truly shone on stage. Please see below for some great updates and exciting things happening at Ernestown.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2">LDSB's Summer School Registration is Open</h2>Registration for LDSB‑offered courses is now open. Students can register by completing the <a href="https://forms.cloud.microsoft/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=Xxb04a7rgk2nPKDeWTgwvq4hqktIamFErKzeGvnctOxUMU5RWkRHM1YyTjg3OFlKNlIyN0dISjNQTS4u&route=shorturl" rel="noreferrer" class="editor-link">form linked on the LDSB website</a>. If a student is interested in taking a course that is not offered by LDSB, they must visit Student Services to see Ms. Stinson or Ms. Hamilton to be registered through PRISM.There is also a separate form for students interested in Summer Co‑op. Please note that students must already have a job secured in order to register for Summer Co‑op. While tuition and residence costs are covered by the Office of Access and Outreach, students are responsible for transportation to and from Toronto, meals, and personal expenses.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" style="text-align: start;">Food Sharing Fundraiser- May 2nd </h2>Please see the attachments below for a great fundraiser from The Food Sharing Project which partners with local schools across Limestone to ensure students have access to healthy meals and snacks every day. Girls System Mentorship is a non-profit organization based in Canada that strives to bridge the gap between men and women in STEM. We believe that early intervention at a young age is critical for young women interested in STEM. The program provides a space for encouragement and aims to increase diversity in the STEM workforce by pairing self-identifying young women in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) with professional mentors from a diverse range of STEM fields. Students are expected to be able to commit 1-2 hours a month. Our program is hybrid, therefore we provide virtual and in-person opportunities to accommodate everyone. Mentees will be paired with the mentor that we see most fitting based on shared interests and goals, hobbies, and overall compatibility. The Recognition and Awards Ceremony will be held on July 1, 2026, at the Bath Canada Day celebration. The ceremony will take place on the Main Stage, located in the event area (217 Church Street, Bath) during the Opening Ceremony, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Way to go, Sarahi! <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Limestone International Education </h2>Limestone is proud of our long tradition of hosting students from other countries. The demand for Loyalist Township and Canada, as a learning destination is rapidly growing. Students from over 15 different countries are here now staying with great homestay families throughout Limestone District School Board. Our International Education team is looking for more families to become homestay hosts to great international students.   We currently have 19 students on our waiting list that have applied to Limestone for 2026-2027 and need a home. They range from one semester to one year stays and are from Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Slovakia, Czechia, Italy and Denmark. Host families will be paid a tax-free monthly stipend to host students. All students in the program attend local intermediate or secondary schools and range in age from 12 to 17 years old. We enjoyed seeing so many of our secondary families at last night's parent teacher conferences. As well, we look forward to seeing our drama students showcase their one-act performance at tonight's Dramafest with their production of "The Hatchett" at the Gan Playhouse. See below for some wonderful highlights from the past few weeks at Ernestown, and excellent opportunities ahead for students.<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Congratulations Ms. Lawlor-Volleyball Coaching Award!</h2>Congratulations to Ms. Lawlor on receiving the Pat Farrell Volleyball Coaching Recognition Award at last night's All-Star Volleyball game at Kingston Secondary School. In her role as a teacher, Department Head, and Athletic Director, Ms. Lawlor has dedicated countless hours volunteering her time and experience to volleyball and a wide array of other sports at Ernestown. Her support of Ernestown Athletics is unrivaled and is greatly appreciated by current and former staff and students! Erin is recognized as a KASSAA high school volleyball coach who exemplifies unwavering dedication to the sport of volleyball, a commitment to being a positive role model for athletes and coaches, and strong advocacy for student wellness. Girls System Mentorship is a non-profit organization based in Canada that strives to bridge the gap between men and women in STEM. We believe that early intervention at a young age is critical for young women interested in STEM. The program provides a space for encouragement and aims to increase diversity in the STEM workforce by pairing self-identifying young women in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) with professional mentors from a diverse range of STEM fields. Our International Education team is looking for more families to become homestay hosts to great international students.   We currently have 19 students on our waiting list that have applied to Limestone for 2026-2027 and need a home. They range from one semester to one year stays and are from Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Slovakia, Czechia, Italy and Denmark. Host families will be paid a tax-free monthly stipend to host students. All students in the program attend local intermediate or secondary schools and range in age from 12 to 17 years old. While here, nursing students and program instructors led our students through interactive simulations in the lab. Students performed antenatal assessments, newborn assessments, and even supported a simulated birth. Basketball just wrapped up for LESAA and KASSAA, with three intermediate basketball tournaments. Report cards went home for both Intermediate and Secondary students last week on Friday. Some students in grades 9, 10 and 11 wrote the University of Waterloo math contest recently, alongside thousands of other Canadian and International students, a great enrichment opportunity and a fun way to challenge themselves! We believe that early intervention at a young age is critical for young women interested in STEM. The program provides a space for encouragement and aims to increase diversity in the STEM workforce by pairing self-identifying young women in grades 7-12 (ages 12-18) with professional mentors from a diverse range of STEM fields. The performances start that night at 7:00pm the Ernestown crew takes the stage around 7:45pm. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Intermediates in the Kitchen- Pizza Day! 🍕 </h2>A little slice of learning, coming right up! Last week, Ms. Lamarre’s French classes took their learning to the kitchen, rolling up their sleeves and cooking up pizza from scratch. A delicious day of hands‑on, experiential learning for our intermediate students! See some great pictures from the day below. Students practiced their French language and food safety as part of the preparation. Way to go! Our International Education team is looking for more families to become homestay hosts to great international students.   We currently have 19 students on our waiting list that have applied to Limestone for 2026-2027 and need a home. They range from one semester to one year stays and are from Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Slovakia, Czechia, Italy and Denmark. Host families will be paid a tax-free monthly stipend to host students. All students in the program attend local intermediate or secondary schools and range in age from 12 to 17 years old. Participating in the Skills Competition requires courage, commitment, and countless hours of practice. Whether students earned medals or simply gained valuable experience, their efforts deserve recognition and celebration. They have showcased not only their technical skills, but also their confidence, resilience, and school pride. We had a team who won Bronze in the Home Builders Category, another that took Silver in the Homebuilders Category, and Natsuki Ono who took gold medal in indvidual carpentry. Way to go Eagles! Limestone Students Shine at the 2026 Ontario Skills Competition

Limestone District School Board students showcased their outstanding skills and talent at the 2026 Skills Ontario Competition, held in Toronto on May 4 and 5, 2026.The Skills Ontario Competition offers a unique opportunity for top students from across the province to demonstrate that they are truly the best in their field. Over two and a half days, competitors impress educators, family members, friends, and potential employers through hands-on, real‑world challenges. Upcoming Family Engagement and Climate Survey

The Limestone District School Board is inviting families to take part in the Family Engagement and Climate Survey. This survey gives families an opportunity to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.The feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. It also supports schools and school councils in building welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities.The survey includes questions about:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">How schools communicate and share information</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Whether families feel welcome, included, and connected</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Barriers to taking part in school activities, such as time, childcare, language, accessibility, or cost</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Safety and bullying, including reporting and follow‑up</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Licensed Before and After School Programs, including questions to help inform future planning</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">Some questions ask about family background to help us better understand different experiences across our communities</li></ul>Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Dear Families,As we enter the spring season and final third of the school year, we are reminded of this season’s promise of renewal and growth, and the key role schools and families have together in supporting student learning and well-being. There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in MayIn early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. Limestone District School Board Welcomes 2026–2027 Student Trustees

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of its 2026–2027 Student Trustees, who will be formally welcomed at the April meeting of the Board.Student trustees play an important role in bringing student perspectives to board-level discussions, helping ensure that student voice is reflected in decision-making across the district. For the upcoming term, LDSB looks forward to working with three engaged and passionate student leaders who represent rural, urban, and Indigenous student communities:<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Audrey Bateman – Rural Student Trustee</h2>A message from Student Trustee Bateman: I'm so excited to be your rural student trustee this year. This role is such a great place to create lasting change for the current and future classes. I'm really looking forward to connecting with the trustees and students from across the board to try and make school a more fun, inclusive, and memorable experience where we can.  Everyone's voice matters!<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Victoria McCourt – Indigenous Student Trustee</h2>A message from Student Trustee McCourt: I applied for the Indigenous student trustee position because I feel that having a voice to represent Indigenous students, their issues and concerns is important. I look forward to helping create more opportunities for Indigenous students and I want our youth to feel proud of who they are and their Indigenous identity. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr">Mathew Katz – Urban Student Trustee</h2>A message from Student Trustee Katz: I applied to become a student trustee to advocate for issues that both I and students from across LDSB are passionate about. Message from the Director - February 20, 2026

Dear Families,I hope everyone had a good, short week following the Family Day Weekend. We have had a small taste of warmer weather recently, though we know there may still be more winter days to come. As we head toward the end of February, I would like to share a few updates with Limestone families:2026-2027 School Year CalendarThank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the 2026-2027 School Year Calendar Survey. Approximately 3,700 responses were submitted from families, staff, and community members. We appreciate your time and providing the feedback.As shared previously, the school year calendar for 2026-2027 presents unique challenges, with Labour Day falling unusually late on September 7, and Easter occurring just four days after March Break. Across all three school boards (Limestone DSB, Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic DSB, and Hastings and Prince Edward County DSB) Option 1 was the preferred choice, and Option 2 ranked second and third, with only marginal differences in support.Following further review of the potential calendars, and considering potential financial implications, it was determined that implementing Option 1 would create additional costs for all three boards. Given that Option 2 very closely aligns with Option 1, differing by only one day and without the associated financial implications, all three boards supported Option 2, with the school year starting September 1 (P.A. Day) and the first day of classes for students on September 2.At Wednesday night’s Board Meeting, the Limestone Board of Trustees approved <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/documents/375540e1-d8af-4e1c-a856-7035ab3f1e4b/2026-2027-School-Year-Calendar-Final.pdf?fingerprint=ppb20260428201347" class="editor-link" dir="ltr">Option 2 for the 2026-2027 school year calendar</a>, and this calendar will be submitted to the Ministry of Education for final approval.You Are Invited: Community Event: An Evening with Monique Gray Smith, Author of Braiding Sweetgrass for Young Adults – March 12, 2026Students, families, staff, and community members are invited to a free in-person evening with author Monique Gray Smith.
